We know that we do good bakes at Braw Tea- we are blessed with some amazing bakers. We are delighted to announce that there will be a monthly 'Star Baker' cash prize of £50 awarded to the volunteer who produces the best bakes of the month, has the most consistent bake, is the most improved baker or produces a 'showstopper'. This is a monthly prize running for one year with 12 Star Baker awards up for grabs. This has been kindly supported by the Baker Trade of Dundee and recognises the great work that our volunteers bakers do.
Martin Goodfellow of the The Baker Trade of Dundee and director of local family bakery firm Goodfellow and Steven said ' We are delighted to support such a worthy cause and to promote good quality baking in Dundee. The women at Braw Tea Cafe have shown themselves to be excellent bakers, so we look forward to seeing the monthly star baker being recognised for their baking and the customers enjoying the fruits of their labour!.'
You may not know- since Medieval times, The Baker Trade of Dundee has been an integral part of the working life of the city, with many of today’s locally owned bakeries having their roots in the families and premises of the past. Originally formed to regulate the activities of the trade, the work of the Baker Trade today is mostly charitable, and in particular in the promotion of employment and skills development so new generations can carry on the fabulous baking traditions of Dundee!
Watch this space for the announcement of our first Star Baker award in April- there will also be a photo posted at the cafe each month to recognise the awardee.
